Tonight is Wunderland night!

RIFF-Wunderland is an event that deals with the boundaries between cinema and various other forms of art. We are trying to explore the contact points between film, theatre, music and contemporary art by creating a bizarre but also welcoming and comfortable surrounding that will make your understanding of art float and swirl.

Some of Iceland’s most innovative avant-garde artists will come together in one impressive show full of different art performances, adventure and excitement and give you an insight to the more obscure parts of Iceland’s art scene. After 2,5 hours of art performances, Iceland’s silky voiced Brazilian diva, Jussanam Dejah, will entertain us with smooth Bossa Nova sounds. Wunderland is a creative and surrealistic playground for both artists and audience.

Featuring:

Ingibjörg Magnadóttir - she mostly works as a performance artist combining traditional and experimental aspects. Text, costumes, movement and sound play an equally important role in the art-pieces she creates.

Rakel McMahon – her work includes basically two media: performance and painting/drawing. Her work allows very intimate and sensitive access to a subject where she often deals with the human body as a very fragile but also openly exhibited object. Her approach to performance as a media is in constant development and has been well organized. Since her graduation she has been a part of various interesting art projects and cultural events.

Sigurður Guðjónsson - Sigurður studied at the Icelandic Academy of the Arts where his main focus was on video and sound. The themes of cinema and music are equally important in Sigurður`s work. He has recently exhibited his work in The National Gallery of Iceland, Reykjavik Art Museum, Arario Gallery in Bejing and Tromsø Kunstforening in Norway.

Árni Heiðar Karlsson – he is one of Iceland’s most prominent jazz-pianists. He has put out two solo albums and his music has also appeared in two feature films, The Good Heart by Dagur Kári, and new film BORGRÍKI, which will be premiered on October 14.

Sara Björnsdóttir – she lives and works in Reykjavik. Her work is very diverse as Sara drifts between the mediums of performance and video. Sara frequently participates in shows and exhibitions in Iceland as well as abroad where she often plays with room and its architecture – creating a bridge between reality and illusion.

Einar Baldvin Árnason – he graduated The Experimental Animation Department of the California Institute of the Arts in 2009 and is currently attending The University of Southern California for his MFA degree in animation. His films are narrative with strong emphasis on design and mood. For The RIFF Wunderland, Einar will screen his short “Catatonic”, a nightmarish little film, which while funny to some, keeps others awake at night.

Hekla Magnúsdóttir & Andri Leó Lemarquis – they will show a music based performance that leads beyond an everyday life perspective. Impotence, no physical strength, mental debility, character flaws and a lack of will power come together as the last strength in the audio language of a train and fat blob.

Ásdís Sif Gunnarsdóttir – she explores the psychedelic vastness of the feminine mind and identity and deals with personal fantasies and mytical roles in her installations, performances, videos and writings. Her work varies from large video installations and performances, to spoken word poetry and photography. The artist has achieved world wide recognition for her work.

Kristinn Þeyr Magnússon – the crying cowboy. What else needs to be said?

Jussanam Dejah – she was born in Rio de Janeiro – Brazil and moved to Iceland in 2008. Since then she has been enriching the Icelandic musical scene with warm Brazilian rythms especially the Bossa Nova also known as Brazilian Jazz.

Tickets: free entrance with festival pass, 1500 ISK without the pass. Tickets are available @ the Eymundsson Book Store, www.riff.is or Bíó Paradís… or simply at the entrance!
