Reykjavik Take Away

30-year-old Vincent Moon has deconstructed the music film and created a new genre with his Take Away Shows. He has worked with Sigur Ros, R.E.M., Arcade Fire and Tom Jones, but now he is coming to Iceland.

At a time when MTV has reduced music to a lonely M, Vincent Moon deconstructs the music film and breathes a new lease of life into the genre. Especially his Take Away Shows continue to impress music fans, who via the internet can experience their biggest idols play live versions in the streets of Paris, in narrow staircases, in shafts and on the toilet! Moon accompanies the musicians with his handheld camera, whose mobility allows him access to even the most intimate spaces - and the most intimate music. For even if Moon has portrayed artists such as R.E.M., Arcade Fire, Tom Jones and Sigur Rós, even lesser-known names such as Beirut, Caribou, Of Montreal, Animal Collective, Grizzly Bear, Thomas Dybdahl and almost 100 other musicians have been allowed to appear before his camera. Moon is a master of the close-up and the portrait, and he takes the film medium back to its roots with his handheld style and raw pictorial poetry. For its 7th edition, the Reykjavik International Film Festival will welcome Vincent Moon. The director will gather some local Icelandic bands and artists together in a special place in the Reykjavik surroundings in order to shoot one of his take away show.

He will introduce his work in a special screening session as well. During which he will talk about his methods and the development of his approach to music, and he will also show some old as well as new Take Away recordings, made on the road, from Cairo to Phnom Penh and Barcelona. Sounds from different worlds all merging in Moon's magic suitcase.
