This year's guest of honor at RIFF is Jim Jarmusch and this evening the Festival proudly presents two of his films in a double-feature: the legendary
Down By Law (1986) and his latest feature,
The Limits of Control (2009). Mr Jarmusch will be present for the screening and will participate in a Q&A afterwards. The double-feature will be screened at Háskólabíó theater and starts at 18:00.
Down By Law captures the sense that anything might happen in New Orleans of the 80s, but not necessarily what one might expect – a Jarmusch specialty. People are strange when you’re a stranger and New Orleans may be the strangest of American cities. With deadpan great performances by Jarmusch mainstays, the film also introduced Roberto Benigni.
In full command of his craft, Jim Jarmusch at 56 doesn’t back off the accelerator in
The Limits of Control, his 11th full feature. It’s a road movie through Spain, starting and ending in Madrid, but not quite like any other, peopled with cryptic characters either pursued by menace or purveying it. The film features an incomparable cast including Isaach de Bankolé, Tilda Swinton, John Hurt, Gael Garcia Bernal, Hiam Abass, and Bill Murray.
