Immerse thyself in the 1984 adventure The Neverending Story at RIFF 2011

The Reykjavík International Film Festival - RIFF - takes place for the 8th time on September 22nd - October 2nd. One of many highlights of the festival is the annual "Swim-In Cinema", where cult favorites like Jaws and Some Like It Hot are screened in indoor pools to the (bathing suit clad) audience delight. This year is no exception with the screening of the epic The Neverending Story (1984).

Wolfgang Petersen's adaptation of Michael Ende's charming children's story follows Bastian who is dealing with his mother's recent death. His father is an imperious sort who continually lambastes Bastian for daydreaming and falling behind in school. As if this weren't enough, Bastian has to contend with bullies in his school. One day he plays hooky and walks into a bookstore where he discovers an interesting book - "The Neverending Story". While reading the book, Bastian gets drawn into the unfolding tale where he gets introduced to a fantasy world, warriors and strange creatures who all need his help.

The swim-in cinema will take place in the indoor pool of Laugardalslaug, although it will feel more like being in film's setting - Fantasia - after the RIFF crew is done decorating! Before the screening, the creme de la creme of the Icelandic music scene will perform a new rendition of the title song "The Neverending Story".
