Icelandic films at RIFF

The Reykjavík International Film Festival starts on Thursday 23rd of September. One of the festival’s main goals has always been to show what’s happening in the Icelandic film scene and this year is no exception. Shorts, docs and full-length feature films will be screened in an Icelandic Panorama section.

 

16 new Icelandic shorts will be premiered, for example Clean by Ísold Uggadóttir and Knowledgy by Hrefna Hagalín & Bára Kristín - starring Leo Fitzpatrick from Kids – and Life and death of Henry Darger by Bertrand Mandico which is the first Icelandic short being screened at the Venice film festival.

 

Besides shorts, 15 new Icelandic full-length films will be premiered at the festival:



Brim (Undercurrent)
Árni Ólafur Ásgeirsson










Uppistandsstelpur (Stand-Up Girls)

Áslaug Einarsdóttir











Ísland Úganda (Iceland Uganda)

Garðar Stefánsson, Rúnar Ingi Einarsson



Höllin (The Palace)

Héðinn Halldórsson




Kraftur - síðasti spretturinn (The Last Ride)

Árni Gunnarsson, Steingrímur Karlsson, Þorvaldur Björgúlfsson










In addition to these films, RIFF presents 3 Icelandic films that have been screened before. These are Desember by Hilmar Oddsson, Mamma Gógó by Friðrik Þór Friðriksson and Kóngavegur by Valdís Óskarsdóttir.

Reykjavik International Film Festival (RIFF) was founded in 2004 by a group of film enthusiasts and professionals with the goal of creating an annual international film festival in Reykjavik.

The aim is to establish a major film event to enrich and enliven the local film culture, but moreover, to become an international attraction.

We believe that by building up an innovative film festival in Reykjavik, our foreign guests will have a unique opportunity to participate in an exciting cultural event, as well as visiting a country renowned for its natural wonders and dynamic culture.
