Gina Belafonte confirmed for RIFF 2011

Actress Gina Belafonte, the daughter of legendary singer, actor and human rights activist Harry Belafonte, has confirmed her attendance at the 2011 edition of Reykjavik International Film Festival. She will attend a screening of Sing Your Song which recounts the life and times of “calypso-king” Harry Belafonte.

Gina, who co-produced the documentary, has during her career as an actress acted in films such as breakdance and hip-hop favourite Beat Street from 1984, Bright Lights Big City starring Michael J. Fox and Kiefer Sutherland from1988, and Robert Altman’s Kansas City from 1996.

Sing Your Song has already been selected for screenings at the film festivals in  Berlin, Tribeca og Sundance, and has generated a universal applause. The film recounts the life of Harry Belafonte the beloved performer of classic sing-a-long songs like “Banana Boat Song” and “Jump in the Line”, but also Harry Belafonte the outspoken human rights activist who collaborated closely with Martin Luther King, fought against apartheid in South-Africa and openly criticized the foreign policy of the Bush administration.

Sing Your Song is directed by Susanne Rostock and will be screened in “Sound on Sight”, the category of music films within the RIFF 2011 screening programme. Screening timings will be announced in the coming weeks.

RIFF 2011 takes place from September 22 - Oktober 2 in Reykjavik.

Reykjavik International Film Festival (RIFF) was founded in 2004 by a group of film enthusiasts and professionals with the goal of creating an annual international film festival in Reykjavik.

The aim is to establish a major film event to enrich and enliven the local film culture, but moreover, to become an international attraction.

We believe that by building up an innovative film festival in Reykjavik, our foreign guests will have a unique opportunity to participate in an exciting cultural event, as well as visiting a country renowned for its natural wonders and dynamic culture.
